2017 Kay Young Scholarship Application

Stonewall Bar Association is proud to announce acceptance of applications for the 11th annual Kay Young Scholarship.

The Kay Young Scholarship is designed to help highly accomplished law students attend the annual Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair, organized by the National LGBT Bar Association. The scholarship is named in honor of the late Kay Young, a Stonewall Bar board member and accomplished attorney who passed away in 2007.

Lavender Law provides attendees with a fantastic exposure to LGBT legal issues and gives students the opportunity to meet with more than 170 recruiters from law firms, government agencies, and non-profit organizations across the nation. More
information about the career fair can be found here: http://lgbtbar.org/annual/career-fair/.

Lavender Law takes place this year in San Francisco from August 2 – 4, 2017.

Students who are interested in applying for the scholarship should provide the following application materials:

  • (i) a resume;
  • (ii) a letter of application explaining why he or she wants to attend Lavender Law;
  • (iii) the student’s contact information, year in school, and the Georgia law school in which they are enrolled;
  • (iv) a statement of the applicants’ interest in LGBT legal issues (300 words or less); and
  • (v) a statement of other funding sources applicants have to finance their trip, aside from the Kay Young Scholarship (i.e., whether your law school’s career services office supports the trip by paying the registration fee, or whether the student will save up money on his or her own, etc.).

Applicants must be enrolled at a Georgia law school (Mercer, UGA, Georgia State, Emory, John Marshall, or Savannah Law School). Students are expected to register and set up all travel and hotel arrangements on their own. Stonewall Bar will issue a check to the scholarship recipient(s) to help reduce attendance costs.
